The Hanayama Chain puzzle is a level 6 out of a possible 6 on the Hanayama difficulty scale, so puzzles don't come much tougher than this one.
The key to the Chain puzzle solution is, firstly, reordering the chain from 1-2-3 to 1-3-2. Not only do you have to change the Chain puzzle order, you also have to reorder it in the position where the grooves/cut outs in the number 1 and number 3 pieces fit together.
This then allows the room to completely separate the number 2 piece.
The added challenge of this one is the number of possibly positions/orders/orientations there are of the three pieces.
If you're not in the original Chain puzzle position, you have the added challenge of trying to reorder your Chain.
